So the first full day in Rome, we do what everyone would do on the first day, and go to the Colosseum!
Today was also a very draining day, it was much hotter than we expected in Rome. I think the maximums ranged from around 30 to 33, which sounds nice but it was also incredibly humid, hovering around 50% or so, which meant it was very draining. The best thing that we were doing was going to find a supermarket and get a 6 pack of 1.5 litre water and some snacks, which helped keep the energy levels up.
The Colosseum was extremely interesting, and we spent more time there than i thought. A pro tip is if you want to skip the line, pay the extra €5 and get the audio guide, which is worth it anyway.

Gardens in the ruins of the forum, near the Colosseum
After spending most of the day at the Colosseum, we decided to walk back into the centre of Rome to catch some of the other sights.
Trevi Fountain – kind of tucked away and hard to find, but very cool.
Spanish Steps – not really sure why this is a tourist attraction – its just steps!
Pizza! These pizzas had about the most topping of any pizza we ate in Italy, but I think in some instances it was better than a pizza with absolutely everything on there, because it simplifies the flavour and it just seems to work.
Some random Italian beer that I had never heard of before, but wasn’t bad.
